We decided to ride the river taxi back to our condo. This was quite an experience as we were in Bangkok in between two peak flood periods! The river was still quite high, & many houses & stalls along the river bank were flooded. To get to the dock we had to wade through an area of flooded merchant stalls which contained about 2-3' of water. There was a raised boardwalk though the area (becuase they probably get at least SOME water every year) but this year there was 4-6" of water washing OVER the boardwalk too, even deeper in some spots. It was kind of scary walking about 50 yds through this flooded area to get to the dock. I was mainly afraid the kids might accidentally step off the boardwalk, or that I might slip and my camera would get immersed. Micaiah did miss a step and go in up to about his waist. Good thing Damien had him by the shirt and pulled him out.
Here are some photos of part of the flooded area we walked through to get to the dock!
Here are pics from the ride along the Chao Phraya River back to the condo. (More at Smug Mug)You can really see how high the river was, and it overflowed these walls a day or two after we left Bangkok.
We could not figure out which ferry was ours to get to the other side, so we walked across the bridge that goes right near our condo bldg.
